About the project
As part of the PENNY Romania network development programme, KRONTAB manufactured the electrical switchboards for the technical infrastructure of eight shops located in various parts of Romania.
For each shop, the solution was configured in accordance with the technical requirements specific to the site and included, as standard, a main distribution board (MDB), sub-distribution boards and boards for technical areas, as well as a 25 kVAr reactive power compensation bank.
The switchboards ensure the distribution of power, circuit protection, the supply of power to consumers and auxiliary installations, as well as the control, signalling and monitoring functions required for the operation of commercial premises.
Depending on the specifications of each site, the solutions were implemented using Legrand or Schneider Electric equipment, whilst maintaining the same approach to design, circuit layout, quality of workmanship and the inspection of switchboards prior to delivery.
TWO EQUIPMENT PLATFORMS
A key feature of the PENNY project is the construction of the switchboards using two different equipment platforms: Legrand and Schneider Electric.
Depending on the technical requirements of each site, KRONTAB has integrated the required equipment into a distribution architecture tailored to the project, without altering its own standard of workmanship.
LEGRAND EQUIPMENT
The switchboards manufactured to the Legrand specification incorporate equipment for power distribution, protection, control and monitoring, in a design tailored to the shop’s electrical installations.
The internal layout is designed to ensure neat cabling, clear identification of circuits, accessibility of components and connections made in a way that facilitates operation and maintenance.
SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT
For sites where the project specifications called for Schneider Electric, the switchboards were configured using equipment from this platform for circuit distribution and protection.
In this configuration too, the same KRONTAB approach is maintained with regard to circuit layout, equipment identification, component accessibility and build quality.
THE CHALLENGE OF THE PROJECT – REPRODUCIBILITY AND ADAPTATION
The distinctive feature of this project lies in the need to develop solutions for multiple locations, each with its own specific requirements, whilst maintaining a consistent technical approach and standard of execution.
The experience gained through the eight PENNY projects enables us to optimise the production process and reduce the time required to configure and implement subsequent solutions.
At the same time, the ability to integrate two different equipment platforms – Legrand and Schneider Electric – provides the flexibility needed to meet the technical specifications of each project.
The project therefore combines two key requirements for the development of a retail network: standardisation of implementation and the adaptation of each solution to the specific characteristics of the location.
Benefits:
Built around the requirements of each project.
Control over the entire manufacturing process.
Equipment and systems from established manufacturers.
Every switchboard is inspected and tested before delivery.
Reliability designed for long-term operation.
Supplier of Equipment Used
Implemented solution
The project involved the delivery of electrical infrastructure for 8 PENNY stores, with each location having its own specific requirements in terms of installed power, load configuration and technical installation needs.
Projects were completed for the following locations:
Fundeni · Cehu Silvaniei · Vetiș · Odoreu · Lazuri · Bechet · Orbeasca de Sus · Noua
Starting from a common technical architecture, the configuration of each switchboard was adapted to the specific requirements of each store while maintaining a consistent standard for execution and electrical distribution organization.
This approach combines the advantages of a repeatable solution with the flexibility required for multi-site projects.
A Main Electrical Switchboard was installed at each location, serving as the primary power distribution point for the store’s installations and loads.
The TEG integrates the equipment required for distribution, protection, control and metering, with the circuits organized to allow separation of the different categories of loads.
The configuration is designed to ensure operational safety, coordination of protection devices and easy access to equipment, facilitating both day-to-day operation and maintenance activities.
Clear organization and circuit identification enable rapid load tracing and simplify any required interventions on the installation.
In the configuration presented, the main distribution system is complemented by 7 sub-distribution switchboards and switchboards dedicated to technical areas, supplying different categories of loads and auxiliary installations.
These provide local power distribution to the equipment and systems specific to the store, integrating the protection and control functions required for each application.
Separating the distribution into dedicated switchboards contributes to the functional organization of the installation, limits the impact of a potential fault and enables faster inspection and maintenance operations.
Each configuration is adapted to the loads it serves while maintaining the same execution and identification logic throughout the entire project.
To optimize the energy performance of the installation, the solution includes a 25 kVAr reactive power compensation bank.
The system contributes to power factor correction and reduces reactive power flow, allowing more efficient use of the electrical infrastructure.
Integrating reactive power compensation completes the distribution solution and contributes to improved energy efficiency and reduced costs associated with reactive energy consumption.
